Fundraising Guidelines

1. Registration and Participation

1.1. Participants who register for any CAF signature or CAF partner event do so under their own premise. Participants must agree to the content of the event waiver and adhere to all fundraising rules and regulations for their designated event. Fundraising guidelines vary for each different event, and can be reviewed on that event's web page.

1.2. Certain events require a non-refundable deposit fee upon registration. Deposit amounts vary per event.

2. Commitment to Fundraising Guidelines and Minimums

2.1 Commitment to complete a fundraising minimum amount by the specified deadline is a requirement for every event participant. Fundraising minimums, deadlines, and participant benefits are listed on each event's web page.

2.2 In a case where fundraising minimums are not met, CAF reserves the right to withdraw an individual from the event and retract all perk items, including race entry when applicable.

2.3 Fees may apply to late drop-outs or those who fail to reach the fundraising minimum, particularly in an instance where CAF must cover expenses or event entry transfers.

2.4 CAF reserves the right to store participants' payment information and apply charges in the case of late drop-outs who fail to give notice, or to those who fail to reach the fundraising minimum by the specified deadline. Participants at risk for any fees will be notified by CAF staff before any charges are processed.

3. Rules and Regulations for Fundraising and Donations

3.1 Participants may continue to collect additional donations after the event date has passed. Personal fundraising web pages remain active through the end of the year.

3.2 Participants may not reallocate funds to another CAF fundraiser, nor may they transfer excess funds from another CAF fundraising event.

3.3 All corporate matching gifts (or your guarantee for those funds) must be received by the CAF office no later than December 1st of each given year. We will accept a written letter from your company stating the exact amount that will be distributed and the date it will be sent.

3.4 All checks must be in CAF office no later than Dec 31st in order to count toward a participant’s fundraising for the current year.

3.5 A $20 fee will be charged for all returned (insufficient funds) checks.

3.6 You may pursue grant writing on behalf of CAF. You must send in the complete written proposal to CAF's Executive Director for approval and signature. We reserve the right to deny submission if it is not written according to CAF guidelines.

3.7 Please send your fundraising dollars in as you receive them. Make checks payable to the Challenged Athletes Foundation. Be sure to clearly mark your name on the donations you send in and we will track your progress.

3.8 Fundraising dollars used toward sponsorships are not eligible for incentive prizes.

4. Fundraising Credit Rules

4.1 Fundraising credit will be given as follows for new, paid sponsorships brought in because of your relationship, further defined below:

  • If you can get your company or another company to sponsor CAF and it is not your job description to secure sponsorship — then you do get credit.
  • If you own a company and you sponsor CAF (therefore basically taking out of your own pocket and giving it to CAF) — then you get credit
  • If it is your job to secure sponsorship for your company — then no fundraising credit.
  • If your company or another was a sponsor of CAF before you were involved with CAF — then no fundraising credit.

4.2. Credit for cash donations and fund-an-item donations brought in because of your relationship with a donor.

4.3. Credit for auction Items brought in by you and credit given for what they sold for, not FMV.

4.4. Credit for in-kind product donations for items that we would have had to pay for otherwise.

4.5 Fundraising credit will not be given for the following:

  • Event ticket sales i.e. gala seats because there is a cost and benefit received for those who attend.
  • Event participants because there is a cost and benefit received for those who participate in the event.
