Prize and Judging Procedures:
The Accenture Challenged Athletes National Championship will be the first race to offer prize money to Paratriathletes. A $4,500 prize purse will be divided among the top three male and female finishers as follows:
First place: $1,000
Second place: $750
Third place: $500
The winners will be determined using a “Power Points” format – all six classes in each gender will compete against a par time for their category. The winner, second place and third place overall finishers for male and female paratriathletes will be determined by who comes closest to (or exceeds by the most) the par time for their category. Each finisher’s time will be divided by the par time to determine their Power Points. The Power Points will then be used to rank all finishers competing for the prize money to determine the victors.
For example:
Athlete A, a TRI-1, finishes with a time of 2:21:07 vs. the TRI-1 par time of 2:22:54 = 101.26 Power Points
Athlete B, a TRI-6, finishes with a time of 2:05:34 vs. the TRI-6 par time of 2:02:15 = 97.34 Power Points
Athlete A is the winner even though his time is substantially slower than Athlete B’s.
