Event Ideas that Work

Special events are a fun way to get your friends and neighbors to get together, have a great time and raise money for challenged athletes. Here are just a few of the ideas successfully employed by CAF fundraisers:

  • Restaurant and happy hour parties
  • Community garage sale
  • Silent auction or raffle
  • Bake & Craft sales
  • Host a tailgate party
  • Breakfast events
  • Host a pottery party
  • Have a fondue or sushi party

Holding Successful Events

Events can provide the impetus to get your fundraising into high-gear. Before setting up a table in your driveway, however, you need to do some thinking. To figure out how to make your event a winner, focus on these four “P’s”:

  1. Planning – This is probably the most important element in putting together a successful event. What type of event should you hold? Where (high-traffic areas work best). Complete this process at least 30 days before your event date. That allows plenty of time gather the supplies you will need to make it happen.
  2. Promotion – Your event won’t work if you don’t let people know about it. Create a fun flyer … make a colorful banner … list it in your community newspaper’s calendar section … these are some of the ways you can attract the attention your event deserves.
  3. Participation – Look for potential opportunities in the community. Local businesses, churches and schools may make good partners. Be creative. Churches may work with you if you offer to split the funds raised with them. Businesses – particularly restaurants – may have programs where they donate a portion of their proceeds on a given night to a charity. Schools may be looking for ways to satisfy community service requirements. All you have to do is ask.
  4. Pricetag – Don’t ever spend more to hold an event than you expect to generate in funds. The CAF rule of thumb is to spend no more than 20 cents for each dollar raised.
