Travis Ricks is a USA National Team sitting volleyball player, paratriathlete, cancer survivor, and lifelong coach who has turned personal challenge into a mission to inspire others.
At age 17, Travis was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his right knee. After months of chemotherapy and 16 surgeries, including multiple knee replacements complicated by infections, Travis made the bold decision to amputate his leg above the knee so he could return to an active life. Since then, he has represented Team USA in sitting volleyball, finished more than 100 endurance events, and won both the 2011 NYC Triathlon and the USAT Paratriathlon National Championship.
A longtime mentor through the Challenged Athletes Foundation and former CAF Programs Director, Travis now chairs the board of the AdaptABLE Foundation, serves as a Team USA Athletes Commission representative, and works in prosthetics and orthotics. His story of resilience has reached national audiences, including an appearance in a Super Bowl commercial, and he continues to prove that setbacks can fuel strength, both on and off the court.
