Q: Can I apply for both equipment and participation funding in the same year?

No, applicants may only request one category per grant cycle.

Q: Do I own the equipment?

Yes. Once delivered, the equipment is yours to keep.

Q: What if I need something not offered by CAF vendors?

Apply for the Funding for Equipment category instead (which the application will guide you to if applicable).

Annual Adaptive Sports Equipment Grants

The Adaptive Sports Equipment Grant is part of the CAF Annual Grant Program, created to give athletes with permanent physical disabilities access to the high-quality equipment they need to pursue their sport. CAF partners with world-class equipment vendors to make more than 90 pieces of adaptive sports equipment available at discounted pricing, ensuring grant funds go further and athletes get the gear they need to excel.

Eligibility Requirements

Open to individuals in the U.S. with a permanent physical disability
Teams, organizations, or groups are not eligible
Hearing impairments, intellectual, and developmental disabilities do not qualify
Must provide medical verification of disability
Must provide 1 year of required financial documentation and letters of recommendation
May apply every 3 years if under 18, or every 5 years if 18 and over

Equipment grants are highly competitive and awarded to applicants who demonstrate both financial need and a strong commitment to their sport or fitness. Grants will only be awarded for equipment that is appropriate based on the applicant’s experience level and dedication to their sport.

Adaptive Sports Equipment Grant Details

Equipment Through CAF Preferred Vendors

Must live in the United States
CAF partners with top manufacturers to offer more than 90 pieces of adaptive sports equipment
If awarded, you’ll work directly with the vendor to order your equipment and CAF will pay them directly
Requests for general mobility or non-sport equipment are not eligible

Funding For Equipment

Maximum award: $3,500
Designed for athletes who need equipment that’s not available through CAF’s preferred vendors
Applicant uploads a quote from their chosen vendor in the application
If awarded, funds are sent directly to the athlete to purchase the item(s)
Same application frequency limits as equipment grants (3 years if under 18, 5 years if over 18)
This funding is for equipment offered by vendors outside of our CAF preferred partners
