The Power to Grow: How Sport Gives Beauden Room to Explore

Mariah Wyckoff

At nine years old, Beauden is still figuring out which sports he loves most, and he’s having plenty of fun along the way.

Baseball, biking, golf, soccer, surfing, and outdoor adventures have all given him different ways to move, compete, learn, and spend time with family and friends. He’s even taken his love of being active onto the water through jet-ski racing.

For Beauden, growing through sport hasn’t meant choosing one activity and sticking with it. It has meant having opportunities to keep trying, build new skills, and discover what he wants to do next.

And as Beauden has grown, the equipment and support that help him participate have grown with him.

Room to Keep Exploring

Having access to different equipment and experiences has given Beauden room to explore what being active looks like for him.

His handcycle added another way to get outside and ride. Sports prostheses have supported opportunities to run and move in new ways. And through clinics, sports programs, and time with family, Beauden has continued adding new activities to the mix.

Baseball has become one of those interests. Beauden plays Little League in his hometown, and in March 2026, his love of the game took him to Chase Field, where he threw the ceremonial first pitch at the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Opening Day game. His favorite D-backs player, Corbin Carroll, was behind the plate to catch it.

Beauden has also explored golf, soccer, surfing, and jet-ski racing, along with plenty of outdoor adventures.

At nine, there is no reason for Beauden to know exactly where any of those interests will lead. That’s part of growing up and part of the value of having choices.

One sport might become a lasting passion. Another might simply be something fun to try. Each experience gives Beauden a chance to build skills, meet people, and learn more about what he enjoys.

That is the Power to Grow.

Growth doesn’t have to mean following one path or working toward one definition of success. For a young athlete, it can mean having the equipment, support, and opportunities to keep exploring as interests and goals change.

Help an Athlete Grow
Beauden’s journey continues with every new opportunity. Your holiday gift can help provide the equipment and support another athlete needs to participate, explore new activities, and discover what comes next.

Help Create Room to Grow

For young athletes, growth brings change. Interests evolve. New sports spark curiosity. Equipment needs change. And the activities a child loves today may lead somewhere completely unexpected tomorrow.

For athletes with physical disabilities, continuing to explore those possibilities can require specialized equipment, training, competition expenses, and other support that can create significant costs for families.

That’s why continued access matters.

Beauden’s CAF journey has grown with him, from sports prostheses and a handcycle to discretionary sports grants and years of clinics where he can continue participating, connecting, and trying new things.

This holiday season, your gift can help another athlete have that same freedom to grow.

It can help provide equipment that fits a changing need, support participation in a new sport, or create an opportunity to keep developing an activity an athlete already loves.

For Beauden, there is still so much left to explore. And that’s exactly the point.
