The 2025 San Francisco Bionic Mile powered by the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) marked a new milestone for the event, bringing unprecedented turnout and energy to historic Kezar Stadium. Participation doubled from the previous year, a clear sign of how much enthusiasm for inclusive running and adaptive sports continues to grow across the Bay Area. From the moment the gates opened, the stadium buzzed with connection, movement, and celebration—setting the tone for the most impactful Bionic Mile yet.

A Morning Filled with Energy, Connection, and Joy

Under clear fall skies in Golden Gate Park, athletes, families, and supporters of all abilities gathered to experience the joy of movement together. Participants chose between the one-mile and 5K distances, creating a welcoming environment for runners at every level.

Friends and family lined the track, cheering as athletes recorded new personal bests, crossed the finish line for the first time, or returned for another year of community racing. The event’s atmosphere captured what sport does best—build confidence, spark joy, and bring people together.

After the last runners crossed the finish line, participants moved into the sponsor expo area, where conversation and celebration continued. Athletes shared milestone moments. Families connected with new friends. Volunteers swapped favorite highlights from the morning. The entire space reflected a vibrant, unified community committed to supporting adaptive sports and inclusion.

Why This Event Matters: CAF’s Growing Impact in Northern California

CAF’s mission is to empower lives through sport by providing the equipment, coaching, and opportunities that athletes with physical disabilities need to thrive. The Bionic Mile is a natural extension of that mission—an event that uplifts adaptive athletes while bringing the broader community into the experience of accessible sport.

As CAF continues to grow its presence in Northern California, events like the Bionic Mile deepen CAF’s relationships with athletes, families, sponsors, and local supporters. The Bay Area is home to a passionate adaptive sports community, and the momentum at this year’s event showed just how strong that network has become. The support felt at Kezar Stadium is helping build a foundation for even greater access to sport throughout the region.

The Bionic Project: Building a More Inclusive World

The San Francisco Bionic Mile is hosted by The Bionic Project, an organization dedicated to fostering inclusion, empathy, and connection across all abilities. Through storytelling, education, and sport, the Bionic Project works to break down bias and illuminate what becomes possible when communities embrace accessibility.

The Bionic Project currently hosts two Bionic Mile events each year—one in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and one in San Francisco. The San Francisco race has grown rapidly, and CAF’s role as the lead partner has further strengthened the event’s impact and visibility.

A Look Ahead to 2026

This year’s event showcased more than record numbers—it highlighted passion, pride, and a community deeply committed to expanding access to sport. Thanks to Team CAF sponsors Amazon, GU, Marvell, and Rhythm and Moves, the event delivered meaningful experiences for athletes and families across the region.

With participation doubling in 2025, excitement for next year is already building. The Bionic Mile powered by CAF is on track to grow even further in 2026, bringing more athletes, families, partners, and supporters into a community that celebrates movement for everyone.

Celebrate the athletes, families, and community members who made this year unforgettable.
