On October 4, 2026, athletes with limb loss and limb difference gathered at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy for the Össur + CAF Running and Mobility Clinic. The free event welcomed individuals of all ages and abilities for a morning of movement, expert instruction, and connection with a community committed to helping every athlete pursue an active life.
The clinic marked CAF and Össur’s return to the Washington, D.C. area following a 2025 event at the same facility. By bringing the program back to Southeast Washington, CAF and Össur continued building a local space where athletes, families, clinicians, coaches, and volunteers could learn together and create relationships that extend beyond a single day.
The 2026 clinic welcomed 30 participants and was supported by 40 volunteers. Össur + CAF ambassador Femita Ayanbeku attended alongside John Edward Heath, and CAF grant recipient David Morgan was featured during the event. The day also brought together many attendees from Walter Reed Medical Center and athletes participating in adaptive track and field from across the Northeast.

At the heart of the day was CAF grant recipient David Morgan, a 28-year-old father from Clayton, New Jersey, who became an amputee in 2025 following a motorcycle accident. Before his amputation, David enjoyed fishing, hiking, biking, working out, and being active outdoors. Most importantly, he wanted to continue sharing those experiences with his son.
His everyday prosthesis, however, made it difficult to return to the higher level of activity he was working toward. At the clinic, David received an Össur Flex Run sports prosthesis through the support of CAF, Össur, and his prosthetic care team at Medeast Prosthetics & Orthotics.
The grant represents more than a new piece of equipment. It gives David another way to work toward the goals that matter to him, from returning to outdoor activities to keeping pace with his son. His story reflects why access remains fundamental to CAF’s mission. When athletes have the right equipment, knowledgeable support, and a community behind them, new possibilities in sport, recreation, and family life can begin to take shape.

Three-time Team USA Paralympian, CAF grant recipient, and Össur + CAF ambassador Femita Ayanbeku helped lead the clinic’s opening program. She shared her story, reflected on the impact CAF and Össur have had on her journey, and prepared participants for the morning ahead before helping present David Morgan with his new sports prosthesis.
Her presence represented an important part of the Running and Mobility Clinic experience: athletes learning from people who understand the journey firsthand. The broader clinic series allows participants to train alongside Team Össur athletes, Paralympians, and CAF ambassadors while also receiving guidance from physical therapists, prosthetists, and experienced mobility coaches.
In Washington, instruction was led by physical therapist Allison Symsack and running and mobility coaches Eric McElvenny and Jamie Brown. Participants moved through group stretching, guided instruction, and skill-building activities before coming together for a culminating obstacle course.
The clinic model focuses on practical skills such as speed, balance, leg-over-leg movement, and multidirectional mobility. These techniques are designed to help participants become more comfortable using their prostheses across sport, recreation, and everyday activities.

The Washington, D.C. clinic is part of a partnership between CAF and Össur that has grown for more than 30 years. Together, the organizations have worked to expand access to sports prostheses, mobility education, expert coaching, and community support for individuals with limb loss and limb difference.
Through CAF’s grant program and Össur’s prosthetic technology, the partnership has provided more than 2,000 sports prostheses to athletes pursuing goals ranging from recreational movement and fitness to competitive and elite sport. The organizations have also hosted more than 90 clinics across the United States and Canada, serving more than 5,000 participants during the past 10 years.
The partnership continues throughout the year. Athletes with upper- or lower-limb differences can request funding through CAF toward eligible Össur prosthetic sports feet, knees, or running blades. CAF and Össur also host free Running and Mobility Clinics where athletes can receive instruction on using their devices while connecting with peers, families, clinicians, and mentors.
That combination of equipment, education, and community is essential. A sports prosthesis can provide access to movement, but coaching helps an athlete learn how to use it effectively. Clinicians and prosthetists help ensure the device supports the individual athlete’s needs, while mentors and fellow participants create a network of encouragement and shared experience.

The Washington, D.C. region has now welcomed this clinic experience in consecutive years. In November 2025, CAF and Össur held a Running and Mobility Clinic at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, where athletes participated in small-group instruction centered on mobility, running mechanics, balance, and strength. That clinic included the presentation of an Össur Flex-Run prosthesis to CAF grant recipient Kelly Jenkins of Bethesda, Maryland.
Returning in 2026 allowed the partnership to continue creating access in the region while welcoming another athlete into the CAF and Össur grant community. Although Kelly Jenkins and David Morgan came to the clinic with different experiences and goals, their stories demonstrate the deeply personal impact of having equipment aligned with the activities an athlete wants to pursue.
For David Morgan, the next chapter is rooted in the activities and relationships he values most. His new sports prosthesis can support his goal of becoming more active, returning to outdoor recreation, and creating more opportunities to move alongside his son.

The impact of the day does not end at the facility gates. Every technique learned, relationship formed, and resource shared can become part of an athlete’s next step. For some, that may mean trying running for the first time. For others, it may mean returning to a favorite activity, pursuing a competitive goal, or simply discovering a new way to move.
Through more than three decades of partnership, CAF and Össur have shown what becomes possible when innovative equipment is paired with expert guidance and a community that believes in access for every athlete. In Washington, D.C., that commitment came to life through David Morgan’s story and through every participant who arrived ready to learn, connect, and move forward.
