For Carson Fox, sport has always been more than just a pastime.
Growing up in Seal Beach, California, Carson spent much of his life on the field — training, competing, and building friendships through the sports he loved. Football and baseball were not only activities he enjoyed, they were central to who he was.
Carson thrives in the energy of competition. He loves being part of a team, working toward a shared goal, and pushing himself to improve.
Sport gave him an outlet for his energy, a sense of identity, and a place where he felt at home.
But during his freshman year at Los Alamitos High School, everything changed.

In Carson’s first football game of the season, he went in to long snap — a routine play he had done countless times before.
During the play, another player landed on Carson’s ankle, breaking it. What initially seemed like a typical sports injury soon became something much more serious.
While recovering in a cast, Carson mentioned to his doctor that he had been experiencing pain in his hamstring and knee area. Wanting to investigate further, the doctor ordered an MRI.
The results revealed something unexpected: a tumor.
In April 2021, Carson was diagnosed with Telangiectatic Osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer.
Suddenly, the athlete who had spent his life competing on the field was facing the challenge of fighting for his health.

Carson began chemotherapy as part of his treatment plan. But despite the aggressive approach, the tumor continued to grow.
Doctors determined that the best path forward was amputation.
In May 2021, Carson made the life-changing decision to have his left leg amputated above the knee.
For a teenager whose life had revolved around sports, the decision was incredibly difficult.
But Carson’s mindset remained focused on one thing: getting back in the game.

Even during chemotherapy, Carson refused to give up on the athlete within him.
He continued to work out and lift weights whenever he could, staying committed to the idea that one day he would return to the sports he loved.
That determination is something everyone around him recognizes.
Carson thrives in competition. He loves the strategy, the teamwork, and the excitement that comes with pushing himself alongside others.
His goal is simple but powerful: to return to the field and compete again with his high school teams.
Football and baseball remain part of his future vision, and Carson is eager to explore new opportunities in sport as well.
One sport he has shown interest in is track, where adaptive athletes continue to break barriers and redefine what is possible.
For many athletes with physical disabilities, access to sport after injury or illness can be life-changing.
Through grants and programs, the Challenged Athletes Foundation helps athletes regain access to equipment, training, and opportunities that allow them to return to the sports they love — or discover entirely new ones.
For Carson, that support represents more than just equipment.
It represents possibility.
The chance to move again.
The chance to compete.
The chance to feel like himself again.
Carson’s journey is still unfolding, but one thing is clear: his passion for sport has never disappeared.
He is motivated, determined, and eager to return to the competition that has always fueled him.
The road back to sport after cancer and amputation is not easy. But Carson approaches it the same way he approaches everything else — with resilience, focus, and a relentless drive to keep moving forward.
Because for Carson, sport has always been about more than winning.
It’s about belonging.
It’s about perseverance.
And it’s about proving that the game is never over.
