CAF-Idaho Outdoor Adventure Weekend 2024: Community, Courage, and the Great Outdoors

CAF Staff

Tucked among Idaho’s breathtaking granite peaks, the fourth annual CAF-Idaho Outdoor Adventure Weekend brought together 30 athletes with physical disabilities for three days of outdoor fun, fireside bonding, and unforgettable experiences.

Hosted at City of Rocks National Reserve, the weekend was a celebration of possibility, inclusion, and the power of shared adventure. From scaling rock faces to casting lines into quiet ponds, athletes were invited to choose their own pace and passion while learning from skilled coaches and connecting with new friends.

A Weekend Designed for Every Kind of Adventure

Each day, athletes had the opportunity to customize their experience with a variety of activities:

  • 🧗‍♀️ Rock Climbing with expert guidance and adaptive techniques
  • 🎯 Archery, where precision and patience paid off
  • 🚵 Mountain Biking on rugged terrain
  • 🎣 Pond Fishing in a peaceful setting

Whether scaling a wall or learning to cast, athletes were empowered to try something new while being surrounded by a supportive and skilled community of volunteers, coaches, and peers.

Evening Campfires & Lasting Connections

The crew camped just steps away from some of the best climbing routes in the park. After each action-packed day, they came together for shared meals and evening campfires, roasting marshmallows and trading stories under a canopy of stars. These moments created space for mentorship, camaraderie, and reflection.

Para climbing pioneer Mark Wellman was among the weekend’s standout coaches, joining a dedicated crew from around the country who helped athletes safely navigate each new challenge—from pitch to pond.
