Twenty CAF youth athletes from across the greater Philadelphia area stepped onto one of baseball’s most iconic fields for a day centered on access, movement, and connection. Powered by Toyota Tri-State Dealers and hosted in partnership with the Philadelphia Phillies, the Phillies Coaches Clinic created a rare opportunity for athletes with physical disabilities to experience professional coaching and game day excitement at Citizens Bank Park.
For many participants, simply being on the field carried meaning. The clinic was not just about baseball skills. It was about belonging in spaces where youth athletes with physical disabilities are not always represented, and about showing what becomes possible when access is intentionally created.

On the field, athletes rotated through skill stations led by members of the Phillies coaching staff. They worked on throwing, fielding, and pitching techniques, receiving direct instruction in an environment designed to meet athletes where they were and support their success. Coaches adapted drills as needed, focusing on fundamentals, confidence, and the joy of learning.
The experience continued in the Phillies batting tunnel, where athletes stepped into the cage for batting practice. For some, it was their first time holding a bat in a professional setting. For others, it was a chance to build on skills they already loved. Across the group, the focus stayed on participation, encouragement, and the freedom to try something new.
Throughout the day, several moments stood out as powerful reminders of why access matters. CAF athlete Chase Merriweather had the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, a moment that reflected both his confidence and the support surrounding him. Later, Max Gallagher was surprised on the field with a custom Phillies jersey, presented during the game.
These moments went beyond recognition. They affirmed that athletes with physical disabilities belong on the field, in the spotlight, and in the heart of the game. For youth athletes, those experiences can shape how they see themselves not just as participants, but as athletes.
Events like the Phillies Coaches Clinic highlight what becomes possible when community partners come together with a shared commitment to inclusion. With the support of Toyota Tri-State Dealers and the Philadelphia Phillies, CAF was able to provide an experience that combined sport, mentorship, and visibility in a meaningful way.
Partnerships like this help support CAF youth programs, which create inclusive sports experiences that build confidence and connection for young athletes with physical disabilities. They also send a powerful message to young athletes and their families that their participation matters and that professional spaces can be inclusive spaces.
The clinic was an incredible day for the CAF Northeast community, but its impact reaches beyond the final inning. Experiences like this help young athletes build confidence, form connections, and develop a lasting relationship with sport. They also reinforce CAF’s commitment to creating opportunities that support growth both on and off the field.
When athletes are given access, encouragement, and community, the impact extends far beyond the game. It builds confidence that carries forward into everyday life.
