CAF-Idaho Wakesurfing Clinic 2023: Catching Waves and Confidence at Lucky Peak

CAF Staff

CAF-Idaho made waves—literally—with our first-ever adaptive wakesurfing clinic at Lucky Peak Reservoir, and it was a splash hit from start to finish. In partnership with Wake for Warriors, this two-day event gave nine adaptive athletes the opportunity to ride waves, try new gear, and push past their limits—all while supported by a team of expert coaches and passionate volunteers.

A Clinic Built on Innovation, Inclusion, and Stoke

Athletes were welcomed to the water by an all-star crew, including:

  • Dave Deep, Founder of Wake for Warriors
  • Tyler Densford, a seated wakesurfing competitor since 2018
  • Luke Fournier, creator of the “Secret Weapon”, an adaptive seat designed specifically for wakesurfing and wakeboarding

The Secret Weapon gave athletes of all abilities the freedom and stability to get up and stay up—many of them catching waves on Day 1, a feat that speaks volumes about both the equipment and the coaching.

Athlete Success and High-Fives All Around

With two volunteer boat drivers and a dedicated jet ski driver for water pick-ups, the event ran smoothly and safely. Thanks to the encouraging, adaptive-focused instruction and the ideal conditions at Lucky Peak, every athlete got up and rode by the end of the first day—a massive accomplishment for first-time surfers.

By the Numbers

  • 9 adaptive athletes got up on a wakesurf board
  • 3 expert coaches from Wake for Warriors
  • 2 boats and 1 jet ski kept everyone shredding and safe
  • 2 days of waves, wind, and wins on the water
