Dani Aravich’s path to the Paralympic Games began long before she ever stepped onto an international track or ski course.
Born without her left hand and forearm, she grew up playing sports alongside her peers, starting at a young age and staying active through school. Sport was never something that set her apart—it was something that helped her feel like she belonged.
Growing up, she didn’t focus on being different. She focused on competing, improving, and being part of a team.
That mindset carried her to Butler University, where she was a member of the NCAA Division I cross country and track team. Training at that level required discipline, consistency, and resilience—qualities that would later shape her path to the Paralympic stage.

Although Dani had always been an athlete, she didn’t grow up knowing that Paralympic sport was an option. In high school, she even received a letter from a Paralympic track program, but at the time, she and her family didn’t fully understand what the opportunity meant.
It wasn’t until after graduating from college that adaptive sport became part of her life.
While living and working in Idaho, Dani became involved in the adaptive sports community in Idaho, volunteering and continuing her training while working with athletes who were new to sport.
That period became a turning point. Being part of the community opened her eyes to new possibilities and helped her begin training with the goal of competing at the highest level and pursuing the Paralympic Games.
At the same time, coaching reinforced something she already believed—that sport has the power to build confidence, independence, and purpose.

As Dani trained in track and field, her progress caught the attention of a U.S. Paralympic Nordic Ski coach, who invited her to a training camp in 2019.
She was immediately drawn to the sport. Nordic skiing presented a new challenge, requiring different technical skills, endurance, and race strategy. What began as an introduction quickly became a second discipline, and soon Dani was training for both Summer and Winter Paralympic competition.
Balancing two sports at an elite level demands careful planning, adaptability, and a willingness to keep learning. Dani embraced the challenge, knowing she was relatively new to Nordic skiing but determined to improve.

Dani qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, competing in the T47 women’s 400-meter race and representing the United States on the world stage.
Just six months later, she competed again at the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games as a member of the U.S. Para Nordic Team, where she twice finished in the top ten.
Competing in both the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games within such a short period of time is rare and reflects the depth of her training and versatility as an athlete. She has since qualified for the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games, continuing to build on that momentum.
Reaching that level requires years of preparation, consistency, and resilience. Athletes train year-round, balancing strength, conditioning, travel, and competition schedules while continuing to refine technique and race strategy.
For Dani, each step built on the one before it—from collegiate running to coaching, from training camps to the Paralympic stage.

Even as her own career has progressed, Dani has remained closely connected to the adaptive sports community.
Through mentoring, community involvement, and working in athlete storytelling with the United States Olympic and Paralympic movement, she continues to help others discover what is possible through sport. She has also served as an on-air host and media contributor covering Para sport, helping bring greater visibility to athletes and competitions.
For Dani, sport has never been only about results. It has been about community, mentorship, and helping others find the same sense of belonging she found growing up.
Seeing athletes who looked like her once helped her imagine what was possible. Today, she hopes to provide that same sense of possibility for the next generation.
And like many Paralympians, she continues to look ahead—training, competing, and setting new goals for the years to come.
