Join THE CAF-Idaho ROCK CLIMBING BASECAMP PROGRAM
This program is intended for beginners and intermediate climbers, ages 16+, to develop their skills and confidence. This program will cover everything from basic knots and climbing techniques to anchor building and setting up mechanical advantage systems. This program is limited to 8 climbers riders. Led by experienced coaches, each session provides opportunities to be immersed in the rock climbing community. Break down barriers with us and create an inclusive environment for athletes with physical disabilities of all levels. Rock Climbing Basecamp Program Details
What’s Included:
Equipment: Familiarize yourself with climbing equipment – from everyday equipment like a harness and belay devices to more advanced equipment like cam and ascenders.
Knots: Start by learning to safely tie ourselves in, and we’ll advance to learn a whole new world of knots.
Climbing Skills: Each session will include a number of tips and techniques to improve whether you are a beginner or have been climbing for a while.
Adaptive Equipment: Whether you’ll use it yourself or not, all participants will become familiar with adaptive climbing equipment and techniques – such as the mechanical advantage system.
Backcountry Adventure: The trip will conclude with a trip out to the world-famous City of Rocks where we’ll have a chance to climb on real rock.

- 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM Safety Overview/ Equipment Overview
- 6:30 PM – 7:00 PM Intro to Climbing

Who can apply for the CAF-Idaho Rock Climbing Basecamp Program?
- Adaptive athletes 16+ of all abilities. Non-residents may apply, but Idaho Residents will have priority, so unless we receive fewer than 8 applications, non-residents will not be selected.
Do participants need prior experience in the specific sports offered?
- No prior experience is required.
How can I apply for the program?
- Application details can be found on our Apply tab at the top of this page. Follow the application instructions to secure your spot for the CAF-Idaho Rock Climbing Program.
What equipment will be provided, and what should participants bring?
- CAF will provide harnesses, helmets, shoes (if needed) and any additional adaptations needed. Please bring any personal equipment that you already own.
Is there a cost to participate?
- There is no cost to participate.
Is travel assistance available?
- Travel assistance is available only to Idaho residents.
Can family and friends attend the program?
- Unlike other CAF Programs, we encourage you to bring an additional climbing partner to join you through the program. Climbing is a team sport, so we want to develop a team that can confidently climb together.
Can I volunteer for the CAF-Idaho Rock Climbing Basecamp Program?
- People are invited to volunteer as belayers, through the Basecamp (extensive climbing experience required) and as support for our immersion – those volunteer slots are limited. Please reach out to shawna@challengedathletes.org for more information.
Are there accommodations for participants of all physical disabilities?
- Yes. Anyone concerned there will not be an option for them should please reach out to Wilson at wilson@challengedathletes.org.
