The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) and Össur, a world leader in advanced prosthetic solutions, proudly announce the awarding of 115 new prosthetic sports feet and knees as part of CAF’s landmark 30th annual Grant Distribution. Nearly three decades of partnership

Since their partnership began nearly 30 years ago, CAF and Össur have collaborated closely to advance mobility and independence for athletes through technology and support. To date, they have provided over 1,700 specialized prosthetic devices, enabling athletes worldwide to overcome physical challenges and actively engage in competitive and recreational sports.

This year’s 115 grant recipients include remarkable individuals like Parker Byrd, who made history as the first Division 1 collegiate baseball player with a prosthetic leg, and 14-year-old Ryleigh Farson, a high school athlete overcoming a life-changing injury with determination to return to multiple sports.

“Össur shares CAF’s commitment to improving lives through advanced prosthetic technology,” said Tabi King, Vice President of Marketing & Operations at Össur. “Our partnership helps create a community where physical limitations do not define potential or passion for sports.”

The vital role of prosthetists in grant success

While the prosthetic devices themselves are essential, the customized fit and function depend heavily on skilled prosthetists who work closely with each athlete. These experts ensure the prostheses meet the specific mobility needs and athletic goals of each grantee, providing ongoing adjustments and support.

“Our grant program would not be possible without the dedication of prosthetic specialists who turn technology into reality for athletes,” King emphasized. “Their work is crucial in helping athletes perform at their best.”

Össur + CAF Running and Mobility Clinics: Building skills, confidence, and community

Beyond providing equipment, CAF and Össur continue to foster athlete development and peer connection through a series of five Running and Mobility Clinics held throughout the U.S. in 2024. These clinics provide expert coaching, mentorship, and hands-on training for individuals with lower limb differences, creating an encouraging environment to build skills and confidence.

The clinics feature renowned specialists such as gait expert Dr. Robert Gailey, Ph.D., PT, and Paralympians Jamie Brown and Eric McElvenny, who share inspiration and practical advice tailored to adaptive athletes.

2024 Clinic Locations and Dates:

  • June 8 — Atlanta, GA (Georgia Tech: E. Roe Stamps IV Field)
  • August 17 — San Francisco, CA (Oracle Park, home of the SF Giants)
  • September 28 — Columbus, OH (Historic Crew Stadium)
  • October 5 — New Brunswick, NJ (Rutgers University: Skelly Field)
  • November 2 — San Diego, CA (Mission Bay)

“Our clinics empower individuals to confidently pursue athletic and recreational activities,” said Lauren Gerrbi, Director of Regional Programs at CAF. “Together with Össur, we are removing barriers and creating opportunities for people with physical challenges to thrive.”
