CAF Athletes Shine at the 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 Boise: A Weekend of Grit and Celebration in Boise

CAF Staff

Boise, Idaho | July 26, 2025 — There’s something electric about race day in Boise. The city buzzed with anticipation as crowds lined the course for the 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 Boise, cheering on athletes from start to finish. For the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), it was especially meaningful to see six #TeamCAF athletes take on this world-class event: Willie Stewart, Rachel Corey, Josh Sweeney, Tommy Schroeder, Will Shecterle, and Kevin Rhinehart.

Taking on the IRONMAN 70.3

The IRONMAN 70.3 is no small feat. Athletes swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles, and run 13.1 miles—a half triathlon that demands resilience, training, and heart. Whether competing individually or as part of a relay team, CAF athletes showed exactly what’s possible when determination meets opportunity.

Standing at the edge of Lucky Peak Reservoir, the energy was contagious. You could feel the collective breath as athletes with physical disabilities dove into the cold water alongside peers, strokes strong and steady. The cheers only grew louder as wheels hit the road during the cycling portion, and later, as feet pounded the pavement through Boise’s scenic neighborhoods on the run.

Moments That Stood Out

Every athlete’s journey was remarkable:

  • Willie Stewart, a longtime CAF ambassador, once again demonstrated grit and perseverance, inspiring spectators with every stride.
  • Rachel Corey brought strength and focus to the course, tackling each segment with determination.
  • Josh Sweeney, a U.S. Marine veteran and Paralympic gold medalist, reminded us of the power of discipline and team spirit.
  • Tommy Schroeder, Will Shecterle, and Kevin Rhinehart each embraced the challenge, showing the endurance and drive that define this community.

The camaraderie among competitors was clear—high fives, cheers, and words of encouragement echoed throughout the day. It wasn’t just about finishing the race; it was about lifting each other up and celebrating sport together.

Fundraisers Who Made It Possible

We also want to recognize Reno Renaldo and Dakota Thompson, whose fundraising efforts helped support this incredible opportunity. Their dedication ensures more athletes can experience the freedom and joy of sport.

The Power of Partnership

Thanks to CAF’s ongoing collaboration with the IRONMAN Group, more athletes had the chance to participate in Boise this year. Together, we’re opening doors to the life-changing power of sport—whether through major competitions like IRONMAN or through local adaptive sports clinics that introduce athletes to new possibilities.

Looking Ahead

As the sun set over Boise and the finish line celebrations continued, one thing was clear: this was about so much more than medals or times. It was about proving that sport is for everyone. It was about courage, community, and breaking barriers.

We’re proud of every CAF athlete who toed the line at the 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 Boise, and we can’t wait to see where their journeys take them next.
