Pickleball has quickly become one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, attracting players of all ages and abilities with its accessible format, social atmosphere, and competitive spirit. As the sport continues to surge in popularity, CAF-Northeast is helping ensure athletes with physical disabilities are part of that growth.
Through a longstanding partnership with CityPickle, CAF-Northeast is introducing adaptive athletes to the game while creating meaningful opportunities to learn new skills, build community, and experience the transformational power of sport. Together, the organizations are helping remove barriers to participation and ensuring more athletes have access to welcoming, inclusive environments where they can thrive.
That commitment was on full display during CityPicklePalooza Week, when a group of CAF athletes gathered at one of New York City’s most iconic pickleball venues for a special adaptive sport experience. While the event was intentionally small, the impact was significant. With one dedicated court and a handful of athletes, participants received individualized instruction, extensive court time, and direct support from experienced coaches.

For the past three years, CAF and CityPickle have worked together to make pickleball more accessible and inclusive for athletes with physical disabilities throughout the New York City area. Through generous donations of court time, expert coaching, and equipment, CityPickle has helped create opportunities for adaptive athletes to discover the sport and continue developing their skills.

The partnership reflects a shared belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the physical, social, and emotional benefits of sport. By creating adaptive-friendly opportunities and introducing athletes to one of the nation’s fastest-growing recreational activities, CAF-Northeast and CityPickle are helping expand what participation in sport can look like.
Beyond providing access to the game itself, the partnership has also helped showcase adaptive pickleball to a broader audience. Events like CityPicklePalooza Week highlight the athleticism, determination, and talent of athletes with physical disabilities while demonstrating how inclusive environments can create meaningful opportunities for participation and connection.

Part of pickleball’s rapid growth stems from its accessibility. The sport is easy to learn, adaptable for athletes of varying abilities, and offers opportunities for both recreational play and competition. For many adaptive athletes, pickleball provides a new avenue to stay active, challenge themselves, and build relationships through sport.
For CAF-Northeast, introducing athletes to emerging sports like pickleball is an important part of its mission to provide opportunities that support lifelong participation in physical activity. Access to sport can influence far more than athletic performance. It can create confidence, foster social connections, strengthen communities, and open doors to new experiences that may have once felt out of reach.
By partnering with organizations like CityPickle, CAF-Northeast continues expanding the range of opportunities available to athletes while helping ensure adaptive sports remain visible and accessible within local communities.

Among the participants was CAF athlete Robert Rodriguez, who joined several youth athletes for a day focused on skill development, learning, and fun. With a small group setting, athletes benefited from one-on-one attention from coaches and had the opportunity to spend more time actively playing and refining techniques.
Throughout the day, athletes practiced fundamentals, learned game strategy, and built confidence on the court. By the event’s conclusion, many participants were rallying successfully and competing in games, demonstrating just how quickly the sport can become engaging and accessible for newcomers.
The experience also highlighted something equally important: the power of community. Athletes connected with one another, shared experiences, celebrated progress, and enjoyed an environment designed around inclusion and support.

As interest in pickleball continues to climb nationwide, partnerships like the one between CAF-Northeast and CityPickle will play an important role in ensuring adaptive athletes have a place within the sport’s growth.
Through continued collaboration, both organizations are helping create pathways for participation, introducing new athletes to the game, and demonstrating what is possible when access and opportunity come together.
Whether stepping onto a pickleball court for the first time or continuing an athletic journey, adaptive athletes deserve the opportunity to participate, compete, and belong. Thanks to partners like CityPickle, CAF-Northeast is helping make that future a reality, one rally at a time.
