CAF-Idaho Cycling Club 2024: A Season of Dirt, Growth, and Connection on the Trails

CAF Staff

This year, the CAF-Idaho Cycling Club went all in on mountain biking—and it delivered a season full of grit, growth, and good times. From dusty climbs to smooth descents, 28 riders came together for nine unforgettable rides across Boise’s trail systems, learning new skills, building confidence, and deepening community along the way.

Mountain Biking Only, Adventure Guaranteed

For the first time, the Cycling Club focused exclusively on adaptive mountain biking. Led by coaching powerhouses Jet Turner and Chris Panagos, the season kicked off with a community dinner at the Idaho Outdoor Fieldhouse before hitting the trails on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Open to riders 16 and up, the group brought together a dynamic mix of disabled and non-disabled athletes, from trail veterans to total beginners.

CAF also provided eight adaptive mountain bikes, ensuring access and inclusion for all athletes—regardless of their personal gear or experience.

90 Miles of Progress, Camaraderie, and Dusty High-Fives

Over the course of nine group rides, participants logged a total of 90 trail miles. Along the way, they picked up skills in trail etiquette, bike maintenance, and adaptive riding techniques—all while supporting each other through climbs, spills, breakthroughs, and belly laughs.

Whether riding solo or navigating in tandem with volunteers, riders pushed their physical boundaries and found something even more valuable: a trail family.

Beyond the Bike: A Stronger Community

CAF’s goal was never just about the ride—it was about building community and belonging through shared outdoor experiences. Riders left the season with new friendships, a deeper connection to nature, and a rolodex of people they can count on—for gear advice, trail recommendations, or just a riding buddy for future adventures.
