Lusardi Construction Company has long been a dedicated supporter of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) through their active involvement in the San Diego Triathlon Challenge (SDTC). For years, Team Lusardi has brought passion, teamwork, and philanthropy to this premier adaptive sports event, raising millions to empower athletes with physical challenges.
Founded in 1958 by Warner Lusardi and his father Peter, Lusardi Construction began humbly in a Vista, California garage. Over six decades, it has grown into one of the nation’s most successful general contractors, with offices in San Marcos and Dublin, CA, and a team of over 200 employees. Lusardi’s story is a classic example of American entrepreneurship, built on hard work, integrity, and community focus.

Members of Team Lusardi share why they’re committed to the cause and what motivates their involvement:
Bill Leslie, Director of Preconstruction, explains, “Supporting CAF is a way for us to give back to our community and uplift those facing physical challenges. Seeing the joy and determination of the kids, some running with just one leg, is incredibly inspiring. It puts life in perspective.”
Ann Hellikson, Preconstruction Assistant, adds, “The event is truly inspiring. Watching athletes of all ages overcome adversity and celebrate victories motivates us all. It’s amazing to see the community come together — from volunteers to families.”
John Walsh, Project Manager, recalls his personal connection: “I’ve been involved with CAF since I was a kid. Biking with Team Lusardi during SDTC is a highlight each year. It’s eye-opening to realize insurance often doesn’t cover athletic prosthetics, so fundraising is vital.”

From seasoned participants like John Walsh to newcomers like Brent Frickey, who is training hard for his first 10-mile run, Team Lusardi embodies dedication. “We’re spreading awareness on social media and encouraging donations,” says Brent. “The support we see at the event is incredible.”
Executive Assistant Heidi Pugsley shares, “It’s humbling to see so many athletes, especially kids, overcome their challenges. Even the 5K walk makes a difference. The event brings our team closer and fills us with pride.”
Preconstruction Coordinator Velia Ibarra highlights the community aspect: “The energy at SDTC is electric. It motivates everyone, and I bring my family so my kids appreciate their own lives and learn to give their all.”

Over the years, Lusardi Construction and Team Lusardi have raised millions for CAF, helping fund equipment, training, and programs that empower athletes worldwide. Their commitment extends beyond fundraising — it’s about building a community that supports adaptive athletes every step of the way.
Project Manager Mitchell Scott-Fell says it best: “Knowing we help make a difference for kids and adults with disabilities is rewarding. Participating in the swim event this year, I’m just going for it!”
Vice President Nick Novak reflects, “Seeing families and children support each other reminds us all to never take life for granted. Team Lusardi’s involvement means so much to us personally and professionally.”

The San Diego Triathlon Challenge is more than a race — it’s a celebration of resilience, community, and possibility. Lusardi Construction and Team Lusardi’s unwavering support shows the power of teamwork in driving impact for athletes with physical disabilities.
