CAF-Northeast Junior Council Hosts Inaugural Awareness Night in New York City

Mariah Wyckoff

The Northeast Junior Council of the Challenged Athletes Foundation hosted its inaugural Awareness Night at the Georgia Room in New York City, bringing together emerging leaders, philanthropists, and changemakers in support of athletes with physical disabilities.

The evening was designed to do more than celebrate community; it was created to elevate awareness and generate meaningful impact for adaptive sport programs nationwide.

A Night Centered on Purpose and Impact

The event blended high-energy celebration with a shared mission: ensuring that cost is never a barrier to participation in sport.

Through ticket sales and direct donations, guests helped support CAF’s mission to provide adaptive sports grants, equipment, training, competition travel, and community programming for athletes with physical disabilities.

By the end of the evening, the event had raised over $60,000 in support of the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

Bringing the Community Together

Over 180 attendees filled the Georgia Room, representing a growing network of young leaders and supporters committed to expanding access in sport.

The energy of the evening reflected a shared belief that sport has the power to transform lives and that access should not be limited by financial barriers.

Athlete Voices at the Center

A highlight of the night was hearing directly from athletes Christian Metzler and Sam Rossiello, who shared their personal journeys and the role CAF has played in their athletic development.

Both athletes spoke to the impact of receiving support from CAF and highlighted how access to equipment, training opportunities, and community support helped them continue progressing in sport after life-changing challenges.

Their stories grounded the evening in lived experience, reminding attendees of the real impact behind every donation and every grant awarded.

Supporting the Future of Adaptive Sport

The CAF-Northeast Junior Council’s inaugural event marks an important step in expanding youth and community engagement within CAF’s mission.

By bringing together a new generation of supporters, the event helped strengthen the foundation for future athletes who will benefit from adaptive sport opportunities, mentorship, and funding support.

Looking Ahead

With the success of its first Awareness Night, the CAF-Northeast Junior Council continues to build momentum as a growing force within the Challenged Athletes Foundation community.

Events like this ensure that adaptive sport continues to grow, not just through funding, but through awareness, connection, and shared purpose.
