The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), in partnership with the New Jersey Devils Youth Foundation, recently hosted an impactful youth sled hockey clinic that brought together 21 young athletes for an unforgettable day of adaptive sport, skill development, and community-building.
Held with the goal of expanding access to adaptive athletics, the clinic provided participants with the opportunity to strengthen their sled hockey fundamentals while gaining confidence both on and off the ice. For many athletes, programs like this serve as critical entry points into sport, opening doors to new experiences, personal growth, and lifelong community connections.

Throughout the day, athletes engaged in a structured series of drills focused on core sled hockey skills, including skating technique, puck control, passing accuracy, shooting mechanics, and overall game awareness. Coaches and mentors worked closely with participants, creating an encouraging environment where athletes could challenge themselves, improve their abilities, and celebrate progress.
The session culminated in a small-area scrimmage, allowing athletes to apply what they learned in real-time gameplay while fostering teamwork, strategy, and camaraderie.

While improving athletic performance was a major focus, the true impact of the clinic extended far beyond technical skills.
What stood out most was the remarkable energy, determination, and support shared among participants. Each athlete brought enthusiasm and resilience to the ice, creating an environment rooted in encouragement and connection.
Adaptive sport clinics like this one are about more than learning how to compete—they are about empowering young athletes with physical disabilities to build confidence, discover their capabilities, and feel a sense of belonging.
By creating opportunities for youth athletes to access sport in an inclusive and supportive setting, CAF and the New Jersey Devils Youth Foundation are helping shape the future of adaptive athletics while reinforcing the idea that every athlete deserves the chance to play, grow, and thrive.

The success of the sled hockey clinic was made possible through the meaningful partnership between CAF and the New Jersey Devils Youth Foundation, whose shared commitment to inclusion continues to create life-changing opportunities for athletes.
The Devils Youth Foundation’s dedication to making hockey more accessible aligns closely with CAF’s mission to remove barriers to sport for athletes with physical disabilities. Together, these organizations are helping ensure that adaptive athletes have access to the resources, programming, and community support they need to succeed.
Partnerships like this demonstrate the powerful impact that can be achieved when organizations come together to invest in the next generation of athletes.

For the 21 youth athletes who participated, this clinic represented much more than a day on the ice. It was an opportunity to develop new skills, build lasting friendships, and gain confidence that extends far beyond sport.
As adaptive sports continue to grow, clinics like these play an essential role in fostering participation, developing talent, and creating more inclusive spaces for athletes of all abilities.
CAF remains committed to expanding access to sport through impactful partnerships, community programming, and athlete support. By investing in youth athletes today, we are helping build a stronger, more inclusive future for adaptive sports tomorrow.
The day served as a powerful reminder that when athletes are given the opportunity, support, and tools to succeed, their potential is limitless.
CAF extends its gratitude to the New Jersey Devils Youth Foundation for their partnership and dedication to creating meaningful opportunities for youth athletes with physical disabilities.
Together, we are breaking barriers, building confidence, and ensuring that sport remains a place where every athlete belongs.
