CAF-Idaho Nordic Skiing Basecamp 2024–25: Gliding into Confidence, Community, and Cold-Weather Adventure

CAF Staff

For ten dedicated athletes, winter in Idaho became a season of growth, grit, and glide through the CAF-Idaho Nordic Skiing Basecamp. Spanning eight weeks across three regions, this adaptive training program gave participants the tools, skills, and support to not only learn Nordic skiing—but to thrive on the trails.

Three people skiing, two in sit-skis and one standing, on a snowy surface.

Training for the Trail, Built on Connection

From early-season snow in Boise, to the Boulder Mountain Tour in Sun Valley, to a closing immersion in Driggs, athletes were immersed in a full-spectrum Nordic experience. Weekly sessions offered structured coaching in sit-ski fitting, biathlon basics, waxing techniques, and strength training, helping athletes build skill and confidence one push at a time.

More than a training camp, the program cultivated authentic connection and community, with athletes encouraging each other through each new challenge, snowy fall, and small victory.

Coaching from the Best

This year’s Basecamp featured powerhouse mentors including:

  • Paralympian Josh Sweeney
  • CAF Ambassador Willie Stewart
  • CAF Idaho’s own Wilson Dippo and April Rohr

With guidance from these experienced coaches, athletes of all ability levels refined their technique and discovered how adaptive Nordic skiing can be a transformative and empowering outlet for winter fitness and fun.

Athlete Highlights

Participants took to social media to celebrate the experience:

  • Makenzie Searle: “We love this crew and couldn’t ask for a better community to be active with.”
  • Emma & Somchai Lurak included the camp in their 2024 highlight reel, underscoring its role in their year of growth and adventure.
