Össur + CAF Dallas Running and Mobility Clinic Empowers Athletes with Limb Loss

Mariah Wyckoff

Athletes with limb loss came together in Dallas for a day of movement, learning, and connection at the Össur + CAF Running and Mobility Clinic. Through expert coaching, adaptive sports resources, and community support, participants gained skills and confidence to pursue their athletic goals.

For many athletes, the first step toward a new goal can be the hardest. Whether it’s returning to movement, trying a new activity, or imagining what is possible with the right support, that journey often begins with community.

That spirit was on full display at the Össur + CAF Running and Mobility Clinic in Dallas, where athletes with limb loss gathered for a morning of instruction, encouragement, and opportunity. Hosted at the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy, the clinic brought together participants, coaches, volunteers, and industry leaders dedicated to helping athletes move beyond limitations and pursue active lifestyles.

Building Confidence Through Movement

The clinic provided participants with hands-on running and mobility instruction tailored to athletes with limb loss. Under the guidance of experienced coaches from Össur and CAF, attendees worked through stretching exercises, mobility drills, running technique, and skill development in both beginner and advanced groups.

Leading the instruction were renowned adaptive sports coaches Eric McElvenny and Jamie Brown, alongside physical therapists Jen Gruenhagen and Allison Symsack. Together, they created an environment where athletes of all experience levels could grow, learn, and challenge themselves in a supportive setting.

Throughout the morning, participants gained practical skills while connecting with others who understand the unique experiences that come with limb loss. The result was more than just a training session. It was a reminder that no athlete has to navigate their journey alone.

A Life-Changing Grant Presentation

One of the most memorable moments of the day came when grant recipient Tatiana Baron of Arlington, Texas was presented with an Össur Flex Run sports prosthesis. Tatiana, who has lived with a congenital limb difference her entire life, has long dreamed of increasing her activity level and training toward future running goals, including marathons.

Growing up in a family of 14 with 11 adopted siblings, Tatiana developed a love for speed and movement. Receiving an Össur Flex Run represents more than new equipment. It represents new opportunities to pursue the activities she enjoys and take meaningful steps toward her athletic aspirations.

The grant was made possible through the collaboration between CAF, Össur, and Hanger Clinic, highlighting the impact that strong partnerships can have on creating access and expanding opportunities for athletes with physical disabilities.

The Power of Partnership

The partnership between Össur and CAF continues to create transformational experiences for athletes across the country. Together, the organizations provide access to advanced prosthetic technology, expert guidance, adaptive sports opportunities, and a network of support that empowers athletes throughout their journey.

At the Dallas clinic, that partnership came to life through every interaction. From coaches sharing their expertise to volunteers helping athletes feel welcome, every element of the event reflected a shared commitment to helping individuals discover what is possible through movement.

CAF Ambassador Travis Ricks also shared his personal story and experiences, offering encouragement and insight to participants as they explored new challenges and opportunities throughout the day.

A Community That Moves Forward Together

The clinic concluded with a grand finale obstacle course, group photos, and plenty of celebration. While the event lasted only a few hours, the impact will continue long after participants returned home.

For many athletes, adaptive sports begin with a single opportunity, a single connection, or a single moment of encouragement. The Össur + CAF Running and Mobility Clinic provided all three.

Through expert coaching, innovative equipment, and a supportive community, participants left Dallas with new skills, stronger connections, and renewed confidence in what lies ahead.

Together, Össur and CAF are helping athletes move forward, one step, one stride, and one finish line at a time.
