CAF San Diego

For over 25 years, San Diego has been the center for our foundation. It all began when our three founders—Bob Babbitt, Jeffrey Essakow, and Rick Kozlowski—organized the San Diego Triathlon Challenge, a fundraiser for their dear friend Jim MacLaren, an amputee who had suffered a second tragic accident that left him a quadriplegic.

That event started a movement. Individuals with physical disabilities attended the event and our founders discovered there was an even greater need. From one came many, and now our reach extends far beyond San Diego. We award grants to individuals in all 50 states, and in over 40 countries, and we hold adaptive sports programming and fundraising events across the country, particularly in our other regions CAF Idaho, CAF Northeast, and CAF NorCal.

San Diego still remains our center and headquarters.
