Do I have to be a member of CAF Cycling Club to ride in support of #TeamCAF?

No. While we’d love to expand our club, the best way we can do this is to be welcoming to potential new members and help them learn more about CAF and why joining the club will be very rewarding. However, we do encourage you to join the CAF Cycling Club as membership has the additional benefits of networking with other cyclists, receiving our electronic monthly newsletter with challenged athlete biographies & highlights, invitations to member only functions, and receiving Club discounts.

What if I live in San Diego or Northern California and want to be a part of my local Club as well as be connected to the larger community of CAF Cyclists?

We have plenty of ways to keep you connected whether you have a local Club in your area or not. If you’re already a member of the San Diego or NorCal Cycling Club and would like to also be included in the monthly Newsletters being sent out to this group, please email cafcycling@challengedathletes.org. We also encourage you to add us on Facebook and Strava to stay connected to other cyclists worldwide.

    Do you hold regular meetings?

No, but there are plenty of ways to stay engaged. We will post on our social media channels regularly, update you monthly via electronic newsletters, provide cycling tips and tricks from our expert challenged athlete coaches, and feature some of our challenged athletes around the world. Additionally, if you’re interested, our challenged athlete coaches plan to hold online sessions to check in and answer any questions you or other members of the club may have regarding cycling.

Can members ride Mountain Bikes? Do triathlons? What kind of cycling is allowed?

We welcome any and all types of cyclists! Our goal is to get as many people around the world on a bike and living a healthy, active lifestyle. You’re welcome to use an indoor trainer, ride outside on your mountain bike, or ride with your new CAF friends when you’re traveling somewhere new. Our organized rides in San Diego and NorCal are primarily road rides, but we have many local Club members that will join us on the road and then head off to explore on their gravel bikes. We just want you to ride! (Local rides in San Diego and NorCal are currently canceled until further notice due to COVID-19.)

How will I find out about the Virtual Rides that are being hosted by CAF?

We will be posting our virtual rides on Facebook and Strava. Be sure and join our groups to stay updated on all virtual events.

Can I host a ride in my local area?
We are always looking for enthusiastic supporters of CAF to help us grow our cycling community. You’re welcome to host your own ride and wear CAF gear any time you want. In order to become an official local CAF Cycling Club, you will have to work with our Cycling Events Manager, Jaimie Lynch. There are certain requirements that must be met in regard to number of participants, waivers, communication, etc. To learn more about starting your own local club, email Jaimie at cafcycling@challengedathletes.org. (Due to COVID-19 we currently ask that no group rides be held until further notice.)

What does “Gift a Membership” mean?

There are multiple ways to gift a membership:

    • You can donate to a friend or family member who has a passion for cycling, anywhere in the world!
    • You can donate to a Challenged Athlete that you know and believe would like to be connected to the CAF community through our Cycling Club
    • The first 100 challenged athletes who applied for the CAF Cycling Club received FREE membership. However, we have other challenged athletes on the waiting list and would love to be gifted a membership

Regardless of the type of gift you give, we are thankful you’d like to spread awareness of CAF and the CAF Cycling Club.

    Challenged Athletes Only

Can I still be a member of the CAF Cycling Club if I’ve registered after the first 100 challenged athletes?

YES! We encourage all challenged athletes to register for the Club. Any challenged athlete signing up after the first 100 accepted may not receive the $100 stipend or the jersey but will still be a member of the CAF Cycling Club and will receive access to the sample training plans, monthly cycling emails and our community of CAF cyclists worldwide.

What if I don’t have PayPal?

We are currently working on obtaining American Express Online Credit Cards that will be issued as soon as our request is approved. In the meantime, if you’re planning to attend an event and need your event registration fee now, please email CAFcycling@challengedathletes.org for assistance with payment.

Do I need to provide a receipt for my $100 stipend?

Yes. We would love to see how CAF is helping you accomplish your cycling goals. This is considered a grant, so we need to track all funding CAF provides to our athletes. Please email all receipts to CAFcycling@challengedathletes.org.

Do I have to order my jersey?

Yes. You will be provided a code for your FREE jersey. You will have to create an account on Cuore’s website, choose the jersey from “CAF Cycling Club” Team Store in your size, and enter your discount code. No payment necessary, but you are responsible for ordering your own jersey.

Do I have to pay shipping when I order my jersey?

No. Thanks to the generous support of J&L Pie, all costs for the first 100 challenged athletes in the program for 2020-2021 will be covered.
